MONTANA ARTIST GRANTS
Tinworks Art, a Bozeman-based nonprofit, provides welcoming and immersive art experiences for all members of our community. We nurture diverse artistic voices and support their creation of ambitious, thought-provoking works of art.

This year, Tinworks Art is offering grants to Montana artists in the amount of $10,000 each to support creative work in the region. These are intended to remove hurdles that confront practicing artists in our state. In addition to this financial support, each artist will receive a studio visit from the Tinworks Art curatorial team, consideration for the Tinworks Art 2021 summer exhibition, and a place in our 2021 series of public artist talks. As part of the 2021 cohort, artists are expected to participate in one outreach activity that benefits either K-12 education or an underserved community.

The intersection of Peach Street crossing Rouse Ave reopened with no dedicated bike facilities on either side of Rouse despite having four lanes for motor vehicles on each side. Interested or concerned community members have an opportunity to submit public comment related to this issue right now.  

EPA & DEQ Idaho Pole Superfund Site Update

On Tuesday, November 10, the City Commission will vote whether to provisionally adopt Ordinance No. 2055 (Agenda Item 4), which would create the Pole Yard Urban Renewal District to incentivize development off L Street between I-90 and the railroad. If passed, the Commission will have a second, final reading in the near future.

Tuesday October 27, the City Commission will cast their votes for Action Item 4, “to provisionally adopt Ordinance No. 2055 making legislative findings that creating the Pole Yard Urban Renewal District and adopting the Pole Yard Urban Renewal District Plan…” If passed, the Commission will have a second, final reading on the ordinance on November 10.

After long delays due to Rouse St, the City of Bozeman is considering the approval for a trail that connects Wallace to Oak St and the Cannery District, as well as other planned trails. The City Commission will vote on, Tuesday, October 13.

The 20th Anniversary of the infamous PARADE OF SHEDS is TOMORROW, Saturday, Sept. 12, 2-5 pm!

The City of Bozeman is considering the creation of an Urban Renewal District (URD) at the Pole Yard area in northeast Bozeman, part of which was recently delisted as a federal Superfund site (due to contamination resulting from former wood-treating operations—click on "What are the Environmental Issues on this Site" for more info). The URD ultimately would help finance infrastructure like roads, sewer, water in this currently undeveloped site. The city's website has much more information here.

As we learned from City staff at the last NENA meeting, interest has already been expressed for a mixed-use development at the site. More information on the status of contamination at the site and restrictions on development can be found here.
